The software development team is extended. There are now not only two researchers, but also three software engineers working to develop the cloud platform. The speech technology algorithms are being developed further to a safe, scalable and robust speech technology services.
The speech technology for pronunciation quality assessment is improved by using deep neural networks. The algorithms are trained via machine learning. This leads to a promising progress, the quality is improved considerably. According to the researchers, it is a brand new system using state-of-the-art technology.
Research means exploring new methodologies and technologies. It is uncertain how much time and effort is needed to get the required performance. We started with common technology, but didn’t succeed. The correlation between human assessment and machine assessment didn’t meet our quality criteria.
Together with dozens of schools tens of thousands of audio recordings are made, anonymized and assessed by language teachers. This annotated data will be used to develop algorithms and validate reliability.
